Can I Install an Air Conditioner in My Pole Barn?

As pole barns become more versatile in it use, the custom features available also expand. Now that people are using pole barns for offices, storefronts and even housing, it is important to make these post frame buildings as comfortable as possible. Depending on where you live, you may be exposed to summers that are hot, humid and muggy. This type of weather will make working or living in a pole barn building extremely uncomfortable if there isn't sufficient ventilation and even air conditioning.

If the region you live in has mild winters then chances are you may not need to install an air conditioning system. In many cases the right ventilation and well-placed window and ceiling fans can be enough to create a comfortable environment. However, if your pole barn is located in Florida, Mississippi or Arizona where summers can be brutally hot and unbearably humid, an A/C unit may be necessary.

Before you rush out to purchase an air conditioner for your pole barn, do enough research to determine the size of the area you are cooling and what system will be the most cost-effective for your needs. Simply placing an air conditioner in a window and putting it on full blast may lead to high energy bills and this is something you want to avoid.

So, the simple answer to the question is yes, you can install an air conditioner in your pole barn. However, it is in your best interest to figure out what type of A/C unit will work best and shop wisely to get the best deal possible.
