Is the Site You Are Considering Big Enough for Your Pole Barn?

A pole barn is the ideal type of building to shelter horses and livestock, store feed or farming equipment, or even use as a house. It can provide valuable space and enhance the value and appearance of a property.

If you are planning to build a pole barn to use either as additional storage space or as your primary residence, it is important to make sure that you have enough space available. The pole barn needs to be easily accessible, and you should leave yourself room to expand in the future, if necessary.

You need to be able to drive vehicles up to your pole barn. If you are planning to store hay there, you will need a road or driveway wide enough for a large truck to pull up and turn around. If you are planning to store vehicles inside your pole barn, it is a good idea to install a door on either end so you can drive your trucks, tractors, or other vehicles in one side and out the other. This means you will need plenty of space on either side of the building and a driveway on both sides.

You know how you plan to use your pole barn now, but you might decide in the future that you want to use it for something else or for more of the same. For example, you might decide to grow a new crop and need to purchase additional equipment for your farm. Your horses or livestock could give birth, or you could decide to buy more. This would require space for both more stalls and additional feed and hay.

Leave yourself enough space so that you can add on to your pole barn in the future. A building that is the perfect size now could easily be too small a few years from now, so it will help to build it in a place where you will be able to expand if you need or want to do so.
