Ventilating Pole Barns

As we head into the dog days of summer, it's very important to keep your pole barns ventilated. Whether you are using a pole barn to store vehicles, equipment, livestock or produce, having a well ventilated room is essential in avoiding heat related damage.

Your biggest threat in the summer will be condensation. When warm moist air contacts cold surfaces it causes a wet surface that could lead to spoilage, rust and illness in animals. Other problems that can occur if a pole barn is not ventilated properly are foul odors, carbon dioxide and overheating.

If your pole barn is installed in an area that is known for long, dry and hot summers, make sure you have vented soffit and vented ridges. These ventilation systems will ensure fresh air circulates through the pole barn, reducing condensation, freshen the air and cooling the interior of the barn.

Also, if condensation is not monitored, it can lead to water vapor build up and that can cause mildew on equipment and vehicles. Make your pole barn a comfortable and safe place by ensuring it is properly ventilated.
